Military working dogs, handlers honored with memorial, competition

A U.S. Marine Corps military working dog lays at the gravestone of Cpl. David Sonka during his Memorial Service May 2, 2015, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. The weekend’s events were held to honor the life of Sonka, a U.S. Marine Corps Military Working Dog handler who was killed in action in Afghanistan May 4, 2013. The weekend’s events included a motorcade to his grave, two memorial services, the reading of the names of all MWD and MWD handlers killed in action during Vietnam and recent years, a BBQ, and concluded with a multi-service dog handling competition.
