Buckley provides support to Black Forest fire Published June 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Riley Johnson 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Two Buckley firefighters and a P-26 Tender Truck carrying 4,000 gallons of water were sent to support the Black Forest Fire containment efforts June 11 in El Paso County, Colo. Buckley firefighters were immediately deployed to the frontlines to protect buildings and homes within close proximity of the flames. Since the fire started, it has burned more than 8,000 acres of land. In addition, 2,625 homes have been evacuated, according to the El Paso County website. "When we got the call yesterday and they asked for a tender and two people, so that is what we sent," said Tim Ruperto, Buckley Fire Department fire chief. "We keep our firefighters trained in the wildland fire arena so we can support the community when the need arises." The Buckley Fire Department will remain on standby to provide further assistance in support of the firefighting efforts, according to Ruperto.
