MilPDS upgrade successful Published April 3, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Christopher Gross 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The successful upgrade of the Military Personnel Data System calls for no action from service members. MilPDS is the primary records database for personnel data and actions that occur throughout every Airman's career. MilPDS is also used to initiate pay actions, maintain Air Force accountability and strength data and support a host of interactions with other Air Force and Department of Defense processes and systems that rely on personnel data. The upgrade was done primarily because one hasn't been done for a while and security measures needed to be implemented, according to Milan Christi, 460th Force Support Squadron human resources systems manager. "The day-to-day operation to MilPDS was great," said Christi. "(But) you want it as secure as your bank, and now it is." What made the program more secure was MilPDS being transferred to the Defense Information Systems Agency Defense Enterprise Computing Center. As for the actual human resource database upgrade, it couldn't have gone any better, according to Christi. "(The Air Force Personnel Center) gave us lots of notice. They had it very well planned out. I'm pretty happy with how AFPC handled this," Christi said. "They prepared for almost every eventuality that could occur." AFPC prepared how to handle situations such as if someone was promoted or didn't receive correct pay during the upgrade. Situations involving pay transactions were noted as priority one for resolutions. Service members shouldn't notice any changes as MilPDS is used primarily by those in the FSS, who make updates to members' files. Members typically access some of the 140 ancillary programs that fall into MilPDS, such as the virtual military personal flight, the base level service delivery model or the Personnel Records Display Application. Although there is no action required, members might consider going into their files and ensure all personnel matters are resolved and accessible in their files. That includes items such as enlisted performance reports, permanent-change-of-station orders, medal citations and other personnel documents.
