Gone Phishing: Service members warned of new scam Published March 21, 2013 By Staff Sgt. Nicholas Rau 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 460th Comptroller Squadron customer service center warned Team Buckley members of the newest phishing scam used to obtain service members' secure information. The 460th CPTS customer service center was "alerted to a phishing scam directed at the users of the Defense Travel System. The scam consists of the DTS user receiving an email asking them to log into DTS," a notice stated. The email contains a link to www.defensetravel.osd.com, not a .mil URL, and requests members sign their authorization immediately or their travel reservations will be subject to cancellation. The site requires members to log in with their Common Access Card PIN, which can compromise digital certificates. This is another scam aimed at compromising the Air Force's security. The customer service center suggested service members be aware of the following: The official DTS uses a .mil website address, while the scam uses a .com website address. Look for these identifiers before clicking any links. To verify the authenticity of the link, copy it into the internet browser and ensure the address ends with .mil. The simplest solution is to use DTS from current bookmarks or to log in through the Air Force Portal. For more information on the scam or for additional assistance, contact 460th CPTS customer service at 720-847-HELP (4357).
