Tech. Sgt. Ana Frias, 8th Space Warning Squadron Published Aug. 18, 2009 BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Tech. Sgt. Ana Frias, 8th Space Warning Squadron NCO in charge of the commander's support staff, is Team Buckley's Warrior of the Week for Aug. 8-14. Sergeant Frias has served in the Air Force for 10 years and hails from Wareham, Mass. Her hobbies include hiking and anything to do with nature. What is the combat capability that this person exemplified to earn the title, "Warrior of the Week?" "Sergeant Frias single-handedly manages all the commander's support staff programs, operations and administrative functions for the 8th SWS. She ensures all 8th SWS Airmen receive timely activation orders and pay processing. Additionally, she reviews and processes all staff work related to promotions, OPRs, EPRs, awards and decorations. Sergeant Frias constantly demonstrates a commitment to excellence in everything she does and is the linchpin to a successful 8th SWS operation. Finally, Sergeant Frias has been working tirelessly to prepare the squadron for an Air Force Reserve Command Unit Compliance Inspection to be conducted in September. Due to Sergeant Frias' outstanding effort and professional competence, the citizen-Airmen in the unit receive continuous world-class support," said Lt. Col. Robert Peterson, 8th SWS commander. How do your day-to-day duties impact the Air Force mission? Since we are a geographically-separated unit, I am the focal point for any personnel, finance and orders issues and all administrative procedures for the unit. I am essentially a miniature military personnel flight supporting combat-mission-ready space operators who provide near-real-time data to the warfighter in direct support of global missile warning, defense and theater operations. If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be? Physical training uniforms - especially the pants and shorts - should be made of a higher-quality material and be more comfortable to wear. Why do you serve? Being a part of a family of professionals which helps protect this country and making a difference in the world are the reasons why I serve. What has been your most memorable experience in the Air Force? As an airman basic, while assigned to the 21st Mission Support Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., I had the honor to work with and assist the National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronauts. What is your most memorable personal accomplishment? Being able to finish my bachelor's degree without worrying how to pay for it. Where would you like to be in 10 years? What would you be doing?
