BEYOND BUCKLEY: Explore the wild terrain of Garden of the Gods

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --  Explore the area around the 300-foot towering rock formations against a backdrop of the snow-capped Pikes Peak summit at Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 3,300 acre park is woven with more than 15 miles of climbing, hiking, walking and wheelchair-accessible trails. Rock climbing is available; however, a permit is required.

The national landmark boasts several red and white stone formations, including Cathedral Rock, Balanced Rock and Kissing Camels. The vertical structures were formed from upward forces of sediments along a natural fault line.

Garden of the Gods is approximately an hour drive from Buckley Air Force Base, Colo., and is located at 1805 North 30th Street, Colorado Springs, Colo. The park is free to the public and open from dusk to dawn all year.
