Lt. Col. Danielle R. Kirk took command of the 460th Logistics Readiness Squadron from Lt. Col. Samuel Aston June 23, on Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

Col. Shawn Thompson, 460th Mission Support Group commander, presided over the ceremony and transferred the guidon from Aston to Kirk, symbolizing the official change of command.

Kirk has more than 10 years of experience in Air Force logistics.

As part of their arrival, each new commander is asked a series of questions to show Team Buckley their personality. Here are Kirk’s First Five:

Q: You have over a decade of experience in Logistics; how has that prepared you for your new position?

A: As a logistics readiness officer, we like to call ourselves a “jack of all trades.” We truly are a combination of several career fields, so this career field, as with many, teaches you how to multitask, work well with others and truly engage with the entire base.

Q: If you could give your new squadron one message, what would it be?

A: From what I know, they’re a great team; I have heard many great things about them and how we are a small but mighty group. I would just encourage them to continue to do what they’ve been doing and continue focusing on that teamwork and family aspect of taking care of each other.

Q: You were once Captain Kirk and you now work in space. With that said, Star Trek or Star Wars?

A: Star Trek! I would absolutely say Star Trek. When I was Captain Kirk, I had my own coin and on the front it read, “Presented by Capt. Danielle Kirk, for excellence at warp speed.” It also had the Enterprise on it. I had a fun time with that.

Q: If you were not in the military, what job would you want to have?

A: In no way would I ever change my mind when it comes to joining the Air Force. However, if I had to could have a dual career, I would say Olympic athlete. Prior to coming into the Air Force, that’s what I did; I competed on the national team in track and field. I really enjoyed the pursuit of excellence in that capacity.

Q: If you could be on any team, what team would it be and what position would you play?

A: I would play quarterback on the Green Bay Packers, because I love to lead. With the Green Bay Packers, I really like that their fans are loyal; once a fan, always a fan. Regardless of their season, everyone is still supportive.
