BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Dogs bark in anticipation as they approach the fence of the newly transformed Dog Park, during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug 7.
Most dogs are regulars at the park and they can sense that something is different about it.
The difference was made by Eagle Scout hopeful, 18-year-old, Spencer Fogg. He organized and completed the transformation of the on-base park July 1-2, 2020, to fulfill his community service project requirement to become an Eagle Scout.
“I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this project and earn the Eagle Scout rank without the support of some very important people,” said Fogg.
Fogg coordinated with the base housing office to gain permission to conduct his project. He also contacted local businesses to ask for equipment and supplies for the transformation. Thanks to local businesses, 100 percent of the supplies and equipment were donated.
As part of the transformation, Fogg installed an agility course on both sides of the Dog Park that consists of hurdles, ramps, tunnels and poles for the dogs to weave through.
With help from Aurora Scout Troop 630, Fogg was able to complete the grueling project just in time, as he ships out to Marine Corp Recruit Training on August 9th.
“I would like to thank my scout troop, Troop 630, for all of their hard work and support with taking on such a grand task,” said Fogg. “I know it wasn’t easy, but they persevered through the heat, wind and the early mornings and produced a wonderful park for the dogs and their families.”
Col. Devin Pepper, Buckley Garrison commander, recognized Fogg with a memento for his efforts.
“I love what Spencer has done,” said Pepper. “The organization and leadership that it took to bring this project to fruition and completion was absolutely fantastic, thank you for your hard work!”
Transforming the dog park is not easily forgotten and Fogg will carry the memories of this project with him through life.
“I am overwhelmed with all the love and support, and I will have some amazing memories to carry with me,” said Fogg. “I hope that all the families and dogs here on base will enjoy the wonderful obstacles that we have built for you.”
