BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Team Buckley hosted Buckley Connects Day on Sept. 25, 2020 to take part in discussions linked to factors contributing to suicide.
Buckley Connects Day was hosted during Suicide Prevention Month to bring awareness to suicide, an issue that plagues our Air Force and society at large.
“This day is a very powerful day,” said Colonel Devin Pepper, Buckley Garrison commander. “We have a lot of really brave individuals who are willing to share their stories.”
The day kicked-off with a panel discussion titled, “Taking a stand against suicide and increasing awareness of helping agencies.”
Guest speakers discussed mental health, post-traumatic stress disorder, cyber-bullying and financial issues. They also highlighted helping agencies available to address and overcome each issue.
“It’s so important to dedicate time to talk about these things,” said Chief Master Sgt. Robert Devall. “You’re not alone in your thoughts or your feelings, and we need you to know that. Asking for help is definitely not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength.”
In efforts to transition from the tough, serious conversations in the morning, Buckley Garrison partnered with the United Service Organization to provide a drive-in lunch and a live, drive-in, comedy show. The headline comedian, Mike Paramor, took center stage to provide light hearted jokes, in efforts to boost morale to those in attendance.
To conclude the day, Buckley hosted a drive-in movie for Team Buckley members and their families.
