Increased danger at Mississippi Gate prompts traffic changes

  • Published
In efforts to relieve the congested traffic caused by on-base construction, modifications to the Mississippi Gate's traffic flow will be implemented by Dec. 10. The changes will limit outbound traffic to one lane, lending a lane to the increased inbound traffic from 5 a.m. to noon. The flow will return to normal once drivers pass the entry control point. It is highly recommended to use either of the two north gates or carpool in order to help reduce or eliminate traffic jams south of the base.

In order to accomplish these changes, it will be necessary to close the outbound lanes of Mississippi Gate will be closed to traffic 5 to 11 a.m. Dec. 4. People needing to exit the base during that time should use the 6th Avenue or Telluride Gates on the north side of the base.

Additionally, the 6th Avenue main gate will begin opening at 5 a.m. starting Dec. 3.
