Published Oct. 19, 2012 By Senior Airman Christopher Gross 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The Air Force Office of Special Investigations opened its first "Anonymous Tip Line" allowing people to provide OSI with anonymous tips concerning suspicious activity. People can send tips one of three ways: by texting, online or using the AFOSI smart phone app. The number is 274637 (CRIMES), the website is https://www.tipsubmit.com and, the app is called "TipSubmit Mobile." People are able to send pictures when submitting online or by app. "In the past, people reported tips to AFOSI through various means, such as walk-in reporting, via their chain of command, calling local security forces squadron or AFOSI numbers leaving personal or recorded messages, authoring letters and mailing them to AFOSI anonymously, and on some occasions people would report tips to local law enforcement tip lines," according to Mark Adams, AFOSI 12th Field Investigations Squadron operations intelligence specialist. "These reporting mechanisms remain and will continue to be used as they provide people with varying levels of anonymity." AFOSI is looking for tips from drugs and theft to terrorist activities and potential insider threats, according to Special Agent Eugene Wade, AFOSI Det. 801 superintendent. All three avenues of reporting allow the person to follow up on their tip. "The website and mobile app work from anywhere in the world and the text message will work anywhere that allows direct texting to U.S. based numbers," according to Wade. "All three methods pass the information through a private company that is contractually prohibited from providing identifying information to AFOSI." According to Wade, AFOSI initiated this process to enable anyone to report suspicious, threatening or other activity that may be of interest without putting his or her life in jeopardy. "It's better to have said something and nothing was wrong than to have stayed quiet and watch something terrible happen," he stated.
