BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Many Team Buckley members spent the early morning of Aug. 23 cleaning up the base during a base beautification event. Individual squadron members policed their designated areas, but the base coordinated as a whole to clean up the installation.

"Base cleanup is essential," said Senior Master Sgt. Shane Enos, 460th Comptroller Squadron and Space Wing Staff superintendent. "As Air Force professionals we adhere to the highest standards, and professional appearance is one of them."

The base benefits from quarterly cleanup projects like these in many ways, but Team Buckley members do not have to wait for base beautification events to pick up trash in their backyard.

"Picking up trash benefits in many areas," explained Enos. "For example, it creates a healthier environment, is safer for our wildlife and just basically provides a neat, clean, professional appearance. I would encourage everyone to pick up debris and garbage when they see it and not wait until there is a base cleanup event."

Professional appearance is not the only reason that these events take place, as safety is also a primary concern.

"Also it gives us the opportunity to identify any possible hazardous materials or any safety issues that might not otherwise be identified."

Base cleanup projects also provide another unique opportunity for Team Buckley members to experience.

"The base beautification event gives us a chance to get out of our offices, get some fresh air, a little physical activity, and maybe meet new people all while cleaning up the base," added Northington.
