Forty Team Buckley joint-service members participated in the Military Exercise Leader Course at the Buckley Fitness Center Dec. 7.

The physical training leader class, instructed by Roger Reynolds and Karyn Houges from The Cooper Institute, comprised of written exams, practical exams, and the development of lesson plans.

"We are teaching the PTLs how to be effective group exercise leaders," said Reynolds. "PTLs are responsible for helping lead PT in small or large groups."

The week-long class consisted of multiple exercise techniques, teaching methods and applications of group leadership during hands-on sessions.

"We did some really good running drills. We did some workouts that I believe were very challenging," said Master Sgt. Manuel Zubia, Air Reserve Personnel Center, enlisted aid to the commander.

The course particularly addresses the physical requirements of the military. The Cooper Institute has been involved in military training for about 20 years.

"The key thing is that these are the people who are responsible for [fitness] in the Air Force, Army and the Marines," said Reynolds. "They are learning how to lead an exercise class, how to organize an exercise class and teach it correctly. They are learning how to help supervise and monitor the people who are doing the exercises."
