BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BAE, Colo.- -- A newly planted tree stands tall in front of the Space Communications Squadron building at Buckley Air Force Base. In front of the tree lies a stone memorial honoring the life of Senior Airman Kristopher Mansfield. On Sept. 4, 2004, Mansfield, 460th Space Communication Squadron cable systems specialist, left work and on his way home, was struck and killed by a drunk driver.
"It's a wonderful visual to everyone who sees the tree of Senior Airman Mansfield's life and service, and it's a beautiful but impactful reminder for drunk driving awareness," said Senior Master Sgt. Quentin Benning, 460th Space Communication Squadron, plans and programs superintendent. The stone memorial contains a picture of Senior Airman Mansfield and reads as follows:

This striking memorial contains a simple message of hope. "Everyone celebrates, but have a plan beforehand. If your plan falls through, use Airman Against Drunk Driving. Always have a plan (B) in case plan (A) doesn't work. Be careful everyday not just the holiday season." said Mansfield's father.
Inspired by his son's death, Craig Mansfield has become a strong advocate against drunk driving. His hope is to detour drunk driving at Buckley and the surrounding community.
