Holiday cookie caper strikes again Published Dec. 14, 2011 By Senior Airman Elisa Labbe 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Team Buckley members received bags full of holiday cheer as this year's Cookie Capers set their sights on the dormitories and work centers Dec. 8. Volunteers from Team Buckley and the Aurora community joined together to bake, package and deliver over 9,500 cookies. The cookies were packaged into approximately 350 bags and were distributed in the dorms and throughout the work centers by parish members of St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church of Aurora and the Buckley chaplains this holiday season. For many military members, the holiday season is often spent without their families. "People in the dorms, they don't have family in the area, or have to work for Christmas, and don't get to go home," said Airman 1st Class Jonathan Delong-Ralston, 460th Civil Engineer Squadron electrician. "It's nice to see them giving to us." he said. Christin Brown, former military member of the 2nd Space Warning Squadron, started the Cookie Caper program 18 years ago by delivering bags of cookies to members of the 2nd SWS. She acted by herself and delivered the cookies dressed as an elf. Since then the program has grown into two areas of concentration working together to cover the entire base. St. Michael's has been helping supply and distribute cookies to service members at Buckley Air Force Base for 10 years and is Aurora's drop-off site for homemade cookies. "Behind each bag of cookies is a message of holiday cheer and a gesture of hospitality to bring a piece of home to the service members," said Maureen Price, St. Michael's volunteer.
