Operation Warm Heart: Fill-a-Mayflower Published Nov. 23, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Kathrine McDowell 460th Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- -- Team Buckley First Sergeants came together, along with volunteers, to fill more than 200 Thanksgiving care packages for the base's junior enlisted members Nov. 18. Two weeks ago, Operation Warm Heart: Fill-a-Mayflower, started with the 1st Sgts. reaching out to the Mayflower moving company in downtown Denver for a truck. "We set up in front of different grocery stores asking for food donations for military familes," said Master Sgt. Brian Hickey, 460th Space Wing First Sgt. Volunteers from across the 460th Space Wing and Buckley's tenant units were on hand to meet the Mayflower truck when it reached base to help the First Sgts. unload and start building care packages. "We put vegetables and such in the packages along with other miscellaneous things," said Airman Natalie Weick, 460th Space Wing Command Post emergency action controller. "We have to get creative, if we put in cake or noodles, we will add frosting or sauce." Vegetables and carbohydrates won't be the only staples to make the package. No, Thanksgiving would not be complete without the preferred bird of choice: turkey. "Each one of these packages is getting a turkey," said Hickey. "And it's going to be delivered to junior enlisted throughout Buckley AFB." To follow Operation Warm Heart: Fill-a-Mayflower, there will also be a Thanksgiving dorm dinner the day before the holiday for the junior enlisted living in the dorms on Nov. 23, 2011 at 11 a.m.
