Buckley, local contractor receive award for paving project Published March 14, 2011 By Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association Denver, Colo. -- Last month, Denver based contractor Brannan Sand and Gravel Company and Buckley Air Force Base were awarded the 2010 "Best in Colorado" Asphalt Pavement Quality Award by the Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA). The award is for the "Best in Colorado" in the Special Use Pavement Award Category and in recognition for a new porous asphalt parking lot constructed in 2010. This project was also recognized with an Environmental Sustainability Commendation. "We are very pleased to recognize Brannan Sand and Gravel and the Buckley Air Force Base for this accomplishment. It is truly an honor and speaks well of the quality of work and cooperation and partnership between the two organizations," stated Tom Peterson, Executive Director, Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association. Receiving the award on behalf of Brannan was Abraham Perez - Paving Superintendent, and Jared Welch - Quality Control Manager. Buckley Air Force Base was represented by Mr. Michael Bock, 460th Civil Engineer Squadron's Restoration Program Manager. "This was truly a joint partnership with the asphalt contractor," said Mr. Bock. The work on this project consisted of placement of a four inch porous asphalt pavement parking lot on the air base. Because of the lack of lateral drainage topography, a porous pavement was placed on a vehicle storage area for our troops serving overseas. This is the largest porous asphalt parking lot in Colorado. The Awards Team stated that the pavement passed the flood test with flying colors. The Colorado Asphalt Pavement "Best in Colorado" Quality Awards are presented annually to recognize the quality efforts of asphalt producers, contractors and agencies/owners in the State of Colorado. Sixty-six nominations representing 41 projects were nominated for awards and 16 projects were recognized as "Best in Colorado" in a variety of categories. Nominations are judged on overall quality and smoothness. The award was presented in conjunction with the 38th Annual Rocky Mountain Asphalt Conference and Equipment Show at the Holiday Inn - DIA on Feb. 23, 2011.
