Viewpoint: Buckley reflects on Martin Luther King Jr.

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- When looking at someone, speaking with them and getting to know them, the first thought that comes to mind is not if they have experienced a form of racism or if someone they know has been a victim of racism or discrimination. Well for some, that was the reality they were faced with. Until one day, a man with a dream spoke up about the changes that needed to take place, that we should all be treated equally.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was that brave man who wanted to see a change, which some thought would never happen. Unfortunately Dr. King would never see that change. On the evening of April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated while standing on the balcony of his hotel room in Memphis Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march, he was only thirty-five years old.

Today we live in a world that Dr. King could only dream about, a world where we live together, integrated and open to other races, religions and cultural backgrounds. So in honor of this historic and brave individual, we set aside a day, to honor Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. and everything he strived for.
