Col. Clinton Crosier, 460th Space Wing commander, announced the annual economic impact figures during the State of the Base address to a joint meeting of the Aurora Rotary Club and the Aurora Chamber of Commerce Jan. 12.

In fiscal year 2010, which runs from Oct. 1, 2009 to Sept. 30, 2010, the base infused $1.7 billion into the local economy. This marks the seventh year that the economic impact of Buckley remains above the billion dollar mark.

" Buckley is going to remain strong and a partner in this local community for many, many, many years and decades to come," said Colonel Crosier.

These figures included contracts that were awarded to civilian companies that equated to $191 million as well as military construction projects equaling $26 million. In addition, more than 5,500 jobs were created, estimating an annual dollar value of $280 million. Buckley also impacted the healthcare system by awarding $16 million to local healthcare agencies.

The commander also ensured that Aurora positively impacted the base. "The enormous support that the men and women of Buckley Air Force Base, team Buckley, all of us receive from the local Aurora community is absolutely extraordinary."
