Buckley Airman STEPed to Tech. Sgt.

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Col. Clint Crosier, 460th Space Wing commander, recently announced the STEP promotion of Kandyse Hayes, 460th Mission Support Squadron, to technical sergeant.

"I'm proud to say, Kandyse is well deserving of the recognition received under the STEP program," said Tech. Sgt. Ronald Cervera, Sergeant Hayes' supervisor. "She demonstrates true leadership toward her Airman and peers. Her devotion to her job and family are paramount. And she understands her role as an NCO, by exceeding our standards and expectations put in front of her."

Sergeant Hayes was promoted by Colonel Crosier and Lt. Gen. Larry James, 14th Air Force commander, during a commander's call under the Stripes for Exceptional Performers program.

"I am completely astonished and excited," said Sergeant Hayes. "There are so many people I wish could have been here to get the stripe as well."

Sergeant Hayes was recognized in her awards package for several things, including ensuring 100 percent accountability of 3,347 Airmen in 24 locations while deployed to Afghanistan. At Buckley, she led the first term Airmen center's supervisory panel and mentored 11 Airmen. She also earned her Bachelor's Degree with a 3.9 grade point average.

"Sergeant Hayes has proved herself time and again as an Airman," said Maj. Beth Huffman, 460th Force Support Squadron deputy. "Between her excellent home station customer support, she provides daily, to her above and beyond attitude she had while deployed in Afghanistan, there isn't a better selection than her for this STEP promotion board."

Though she works hard to provide a superior level of customer service, Sergeant Hayes knows she didn't earn the stripe alone.

"I would thank the entire support team while stationed at Buckley," she said. "The 460th Operations Groups, and the military personnel section, as well as supervisors past and present, and subordinates past and present."
