Team Buckley helps ship $30 Million in aid to Afghanistan

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo., -- Airmen from Team Buckley, under the close supervision of the 460th Logistics Readiness Squadron, recently built 16 pallets of donated goods to ship to Afghanistan.

"The shipment will allow the refurbishing and rebuilding of 25 hospitals and clinics in the region and will help transition more than 3,000 farmers from the Taliban-directed heroin trade," said Jan Mazotti, CAP Worldwide Business Development director. "And for that we are proud.

Airmen from Buckley were proud they could assist in sending winter coats, shoes and even irrigation systems to the region as well.

"Here at Buckley this is a rarity. It's nice to get hands on again," said Tech Sgt. Eric Pylka, 460th Logistics Readiness Squadron. "[It's nice to] have that good feeling that we are doing something for somebody down range."

What CAP worldwide is hoping to do down range, is assist in stability. According to a recently news release, Consul General of Canada Dale Eisler said, "Humanitarian efforts such as this will help contribute to the development of a stable, prosperous and peaceful society."

An effort Team Buckley is proud to be part of.

"It's a very important effort," said Lt. Col. Stephen Wier, 460th LRS commander. "The Afghan people don't have a lot of medical supplies or toys for their children. Something like this can make a big difference. It makes me proud to be part of something like this."

The shipment included 10 thousand winter coats, eight thousand shoes, five thousand toys, 23 irrigation systems and seeds for three thousand farmers as well as medical supplies. It took the members of LRS and augmentees between 40 and 50 man-hours to build the pallets, according to Sergeant Pylka. The pallets were loaded on to a C-17 with the 183rd Airlift Squadron from the Mississippi Air National Guard, who will take the shipment to the East Coast.
