Shoes tie Buckley CGOC to Afghan refugees in need Published April 14, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. J. LaVoie 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- There are many kinds of shoes. Some shoes are meant for basketball and others for a fancy night on the town. These shoes, these corduroy shoes, are meant for something a bit more important; they are meant for an Afghan refugee camp. The shoes actually started their trip when Capt. Adam Pudenz, 460th Force Support Squadron, deployed to Afghanistan with an Army unit to work near a refugee camp - where many of the children don't have shoes. "He called and said, 'There is so much devastation, we don't have enough to help them,'" said 2nd Lt. Jessica Gruver Koefod, 460th Force Support Squadron. "I thought, 'we have enough.'" With that simple conversation, the Company Grade Officer Council support of an Afghan Refugee Camp began. Through a Base Exchange collection drive, the CGOC has already filled and mailed five boxes to the children at the camp, but they are not done. "We are still accepting donations," said Lieutenant Gruver Koefod. "We want to help them as much as and as long as possible. Some of these children don't have shoes. That we can provide for them is significant." Items can be dropped off at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center for Lieutenant Gruver Koefod. People located in the space operations complex can contact 2nd Lt. Elizabeth Nava, 566th Intelligence Squadron, to donate. Items needed are: - Shoes - Peanut butter - Sandwich bags - Vitamins - Toothpase - School supplies - Toys People and organizations can also sponsor the mailing of a box by donating $12.
