Two Buckley Airmen were recently convicted of drug use during separate courts-martial for violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Airman 1st Class Travis Harris, 566th Intelligence Squadron, was tried for violating UCMJ Article 112a, drug use, and Article 86, absent without leave, in a special court-martial. He was tried by a special court-martial due to extenuating circumstances including continued drug use after the initial positive urinalysis test.

After being found guilty, he was sentenced to a reduction in grade to E-1, forfeiture of $900 per month for three months and three months confinement.

"Each court is unique. Different facts and circumstances discovered in the investigation and before the trial mean that we have to handle each case individually," said Capt. Jonathan Mott, 460th Space Wing judge advocate. "This is why seemingly similar cases sometimes receive different results."

Airman 1st Class Brandon Hunter, 566th Intelligence Squadron, was also tried for drug use; however, he was tried by summary court-martial. After being found guilty, he was sentenced to a reduction in grade to E-1, foreiture of $964 for one month, ten days confinement and restriction to base for 20 days.
