Clint Crosier, 460th Space Wing commander, held a commander's call Dec. 16 highlighting 460th SW achievements and preparing wing personnel for the upcoming Operational Readiness Inspection. The commander began the call by recognizing individuals who earned awards during the past quarter. The following individuals were recognized: - Capt. Zach Lehmann, 2nd Space Warning Squadron, Air Force Space Command 2009 Col. James Jabara Award for Airmanship - Master Sgt. Del Brown, 460th Civil Engineer Squadron, AFSPC Outstanding CE Manager of the Year, Senior NCO Category - Jon Erickson, 460th CES, AFSPC Outstanding CE Manager of the Year, Civilian Manager Category - 460th CES Operations Flight, AFSPC 2009 Maj. Gen. Clifton D. Wright Outstanding Operations Flight - Master Sgt. Christopher Hart, 460th Space Communications Squadron, 14th Air Force Senior NCO of the Quarter, 2nd Quarter 2009 - Staff Sgt. Alex Walker, 460th Operations Group Detachment 1, 460th Space Wing Featured Warrior A safety briefing followed the awards presentation with an emphasis on holiday safety. Next, Capt. Jonathon Burson briefed the wing on Operational Security, followed by a Buckley Fitness Center brief on the new Air Force Fitness Standards. Then, Colonel Crosier took the stage to lay out his expectations for the upcoming ORI. Specific focus areas were: - Duress words, known by all military personnel and all personnel in controlled areas - Continuing to resist phishing attempts; better to not bite on something legitimate than to bite on a phishing scam - Self-Aid and Buddy Care is a requirement for all and could save lives - Operational Security: remember the 100 percent shred policy - Have a sense of urgency during exercises - the wing plays like the wing fights! - Make sure bulletin boards have updated policy letters, updated photos of leadership - Watch for suspicious packages and vehicles Additionally, the commander laid out what he called "Operational Improvement Initiatives," which are every-day ways to improve processes and document the improvements. No idea is too small, according to the wing commander. As an incentive to find small ways for each organization to improve, the flight or team implementing the most OIIs by the end of the ORI will earn a three-day pass, a trophy and a pizza party. The squadron with the most OIIs by the end of the ORI will earn a one-day pass for all members who developed or authored OIIs. Finally, Colonel Crosier provided last thoughts before the holiday. "It is my hope that every one of you will have an opportunity to spend little bit of time with your family," Colonel Crosier said. "I'm encouraging all of you to work with your supervisors, to work out a plan so you can take some leave or some half days between Christmas and New Years. I want you all to get some time off to rest and relax; I want you all to come back energized after the holidays, ready to knock out these last days of ORI and UCI prep in order for us to be successful."
