Remember the snowline when it's snowing Published Oct. 28, 2009 By Mr. John Spann 460th Space Wing Public Affairs Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. -- Snow has already hit the Colorado Front Range and this year's Farmer's Almanac is calling for wetter and more frequent snow storms than in past years. Do you know what to do when the snow starts to pile up outside? If you work at Buckley Air Force Base, before you forge out into the storm, it's a good idea to call the 460th Space Wing snow-call line at 720-847-SNOW. This line is updated when there is delayed reporting, a closure or early release procedures being implemented. The information is usually updated by 5 a.m. or when weather conditions warrant. Another option is to turn on the TV or radio. Local TV stations carrying delayed-reporting and early-release information for Buckley are KWGN-TV Channel 2; KCNC-TV Channel 4; KMGH-TV Channel 7; KUSA-TV Channel 9 and KDVR-TV Fox 31. The radio stations include: KHOW 630 AM; KBCO 97.3 FM; KOA 850 AM; KBPI, 106.7 FM; KBCO 97.3 FM; KRFX 103.5 FM; KTCL 93.3; KYGO 98.5 FM; KOSI 101.1 FM and KEZW 1430 AM. For both TV and radio announcements there may be a delay before stations begin airing the status of the base. Once again this year, Buckley's established a specific reporting time for base personnel to report to work instead of doing a specified delay time. With tenant organizations having different reporting times, it'll allow snowplows and operators time to clear base roads and parking areas. Mission critical or mission essential personnel are required to report at their normal times. Other base personnel are asked not to report to the base until the specified time. If the snow accumulates during the day, base officials may consider a time-phased departure, early release or late reporting measures when the decision is made to partially or fully close the base. Next time the snow starts getting deep, people should remember these snow-call procedures and they'll know what to do.
