HQ ARPC has Buckley’s Warrior of the Week Published Sept. 29, 2009 Buckley Air Force Base, Colo. -- Staff Sgt. Ramon A.D. Montoya, Air Reserve Personnel Center Headquarters selection board technician, is Team Buckley's Warrior of the Week for Sept 28. Staff Sgt. Montoya is from Salt Lake City, Utah, and has served in the Air Force for 8 years. His hobbies include spending time with his 3 boys, sports, running and playing Xbox 360. What is the combat capability that this person exemplified to earn the title, "Warrior of the Week?" "Sergeant Montoya is a dedicated professional and a true patriot. He has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan as a Personnel Support for Contingency Operations team member. In Iraq, he was handpicked to escort Iraqi nationals on Balad Air Base; he maintained 100 percent supervision ensuring base security. In Afghanistan, he provided administrative and personnel operations to more than 1,600 warfighters in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His volunteerism has proven itself as he continues to represent home unit actions as directorate PERSCO trainer ensuring personnel fully trained to support Global War on Terror, acts as unit safety representative, and a key team player whenever called upon for help. He recently volunteered as security augmentee during a ground breaking ceremony for Air Reserve Personnel Center's new building on Buckley Air Force Base. Sgt. Montoya is always ready and willing to volunteer to accomplish the mission!" said Maj. Susan Wheatley, Selection Board Division Chief. How do your day-to-day duties impact the Air Force mission? I prepare, support and execute Air Force officer reserve promotion boards and promotion board releases ensuring Air Force future leadership. Why do you serve? I serve because it's different from the norm, and the pride I feel from it couldn't be replaced by anything else. Other than seeing my children smile, there isn't a better feeling than the one I get when someone walks up to me and simply says, "Thank you." What has been your most memorable experience in the Air Force? My most memorable experience would have to be my two deployments. What is your most memorable personal accomplishment? Becoming a first time home buyer. If you were not in the military, where would you be? Why? I've thoroughly enjoyed my military career up to this point, and can't imagine what else I could be doing. I would have most likely attended college, and earned a degree in Information Technology. I say this only because I was heavily into computers when I graduated from high school. The military has brought stability to my family's life that might not have been possible if I had not joined. Where would you like to be in 10 years? What will you be doing? Hopefully still serving, and mentoring younger Airmen.
