Recognition luncheon honors top military performers

Businesses from around the city teamed up with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce to recognize outstanding military members from Team Buckley at the 33rd annual Armed Forces Recognition Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza here May 15.

More than 500 people from Buckley and the community came out to recognize the 11 Military Persons of the Year from all branches of the military's Active Duty, Guard and Reserve components. The winners were: Tech. Sgt. Stacy Wilfong, Air Force Active Duty; Senior Airman Daniel Kendall, Air Force Reserve; Senior Airman Robyn Ryder, Colorado Air National Guard; Sgt. Adam Jones, Army Active Duty; Sgt. Jay Maitri, Army Reserve; Sgt. Marcus Landis, Colorado Army National Guard; Petty Officer 1st Class Brian Wiggins, Coast Guard; Petty Officer 1st Class Delmas Rowe, Navy Reserve; Petty Officer 1st Class Richard Wyatt, Navy Active Duty; Sgt. J.D. Roy, Marine Corps Active Duty; Cpl. G.J. Southards, Marine Corps Reserve.

Also singled out for special recognition was Sheila Anthony, City of Aurora Senior Center, as the Bob Cardenas Award winner for her exceptional support of the military and veterans in the metro area.

Maj. Gen. Thomas Deppe, Air Force Space Command vice commander, was in attendance as the keynote speaker. George Peck, vice president of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, read a proclamation from Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter citing 2009 as the year of the Non-Commissioned Officer.
