460th CES flight wins Buckley Team Excellence Award Published May 11, 2009 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 460th Civil Engineer Squadron Readiness and Emergency Management Flight was recently awarded the first quarter 460th Space Wing Excellence Award. "This is a group of true professionals," said 2nd Lt. Brandon Goebel, Readiness Flight Commander. "Everyone here brings something completely unique to the fight and the end result is an unbeatable team. I'm extremely proud of them." The mission of the flight is to plan, prepare, respond and recover conventional and unconventional weapons attacks, major accidents and natural disasters on Buckley. To achieve this goal, the flight must train constantly, exercise and coordinate with other on-base and off-base agencies. The flight also trains the base's warrior Airmen on counter - chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive, or CBRNE, disasters, as well as base leadership on emergency management, ensuring the base populous is ready for whatever may come. "The key part of our job is readiness," Lieutenant Goebel said. "We prepare the base to survive an attack, so it can jump back to its feet to fight back and continue the mission." Currently the flight is preparing for a full-scale exercise this month that will commit base response resources and bring in agencies from the local, state and federal level. The exercise is a concentrated effort to test the capability of different authorities to come together to mitigate a major incident; but according to Lieutenant Goebel, it's just another day in the office for his flight. "I'm extremely proud, and lucky to have Readiness and Emergency Management as a key part of my squadron," said Lt. Col. James Zemotel, 460th CES Commander. "I trust their capabilities implicitly, and I know they're ready to handle any disaster, whether natural or man-made."
