Airman 1st Class Matthew Duane, 460th CONS Published April 7, 2009 WARRIOR OF THE WEEK -- Airman 1st Class Matthew Duane, a Contract Specialist and Installation Purchase Card Manager with the 460th Contracting Squadron, is Team Buckley's Warrior of the Week for April 10 - 16. Airman Duane has been in the Air Force for 13 months and hails from Middletown, N.J., home of Jon Bon Jovi. He enjoys reading boring philosophy books, watching movies from Netflix and playing miniature golf. What is the combat capability that this person exemplified to earn the title, "Warrior of the Week?" "Airman Duane is consistently setting the example for others to follow," said Master Sgt. Sabrina DeRamus, 460th CONS Superintendent. "As an airman first class he is responsible for more than $7.4 million in Government Purchase Card accounts and monitors $32 million in service contracts that allow the mission at Buckley to be successful. He continually excels at every opportunity and exemplifies the Air Force core value of "Service before self." How do your day-to-day duties impact the Air Force mission? I facilitate Government Purchase Card purchases. This ranges from pens and paper, information technology equipment, deployment gear, training, medical supplies, tools and many other commodities that enables this base to properly function. If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be? I would change the requirement of needing three years time-in-service to move out of the military dormitories. Why do you serve? I serve to give back to my country for all the advantages I've received growing up. What has been your most memorable experience in the Air Force? The "snake pit" at basic training has been my most memorable experience in the Air Force. What is your most memorable personal accomplishment? Graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Philosophy. If you were not in the military, where would you be? Why? I can't imagine what my life would be like had I not chosen to enlist in the Air Force. Where would you like to be in 10 years? What will you be doing? In 10 years, I would like to be a contracting officer somewhere in the southwestern United States.
