A Wingman -- at all times Published Nov. 20, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Sanjay Allen 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Team Buckley will focus on "Wingmanship" Nov. 25. This day is set aside to focus on the Air Force's most valuable resource -- people. This year's theme is "A Wingman -- at all times." Capt. Adam Pudenz, Buckley's Wingman Day coordinator, explained that the main message is to encourage individuals to make responsible decisions in their own lives and be able to identify when their fellow Airmen may need assistance from one of the Air Force's helping agencies. The day begins with an event for all Airmen age 26 and under -- officer and enlisted -- at the Leadership Development Center from 8 to 11 a.m. The event is filled with small group activities and performances that promote responsible decision-making and educate members of the responsibilities they all have to their fellow Airmen. Units have the afternoon to develop their own small group activities. Based on lessons learned from past Wingman Days, planners and units will place emphasis on small group activities and tailored or targeted initiatives addressing local trends or threats. Since 2004, Air Force Space Command has set aside a day to focus on what it means to be a Wingman. This year, the day's focus is on good leadership as good prevention. "Celebrating the Wingman concept of Airmen taking care of Airmen has been a valuable Air Force tool in promoting responsible behaviors among Airmen," said Lt. Gen. Richard Newton III, Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel, in a memo about Wingman Day 2008.
