Base team destroys unstable dynamite Published Nov. 14, 2008 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- A trained Air Force team detonated six sticks of dynamite here this morning. With the increasing role and visibility of Air Force military working dogs, the 460th Space Wing routinely uses dynamite to train them in finding explosives. According to the 460th Space Wing Safety Office, the dynamite had become unstable and could not be shipped to another location for disposal. "Based on the instability of the dynamite, it was determined that the safest course of action (was) to detonate the sticks (here)," stated Lt. Col. Nancy Staats, 460th Space Wing Chief of Safety. Highly trained Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel from the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard carried out the denotation at a safe location here.
