Team Buckley members grit out 5K to help others

BUCKLEY AFB, Colo. -- More than 70 Team Buckley members gathered in the spirit of giving during the Operation Warm Heart 5K Sept. 26.

The participants volunteered their time and energy to benefit others.

The Buckley First Sergeant's Association, in conjunction with the 460th Space Wing Chapel, runs Operation Warm Heart and throughout the year, the program provides support to personnel who are experiencing financial difficulty where no other resources are available.

During the holidays, the OWH committee runs the Angel Tree program which provides new toys and gifts to families on Buckley who need a helping hand. Each family also receives a Commissary check in December to help cover the cost of holiday meals.

During the 2007 holiday season, Operation Warm Heart aided 217 Team Buckley families with their Thanksgiving meal, distributed more than 175 toys and gifts to families and gave away $6,500 in Commissary checks.

Donations are still needed and being accepted. Donations are greatly appreciated and help provide "holiday cheer" to Buckley families. All donation proceeds go to Buckley families. To donate, talk to a first sergeant any time.
