New MSG commander takes reins

Col. Vincent Jefferson assumed command of the 460th Mission Support Group in a ceremony here May 9.

Colonel Jefferson comes to Buckley from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., where he was the director of operations and exercises for 14th Air Force. 

Col. Wayne McGee, 460th SW commander, introduced him to the wing before he took command.

"I've always understood that to be successful you have to surround yourself with great people," the wing commander said. "And in our case, in the military, you have to surround yourself with great leaders. And so that's what we do today, as I install Colonel Jefferson into command of the Mission Support Group. "

"I know he's the person that can lead change and strengthen our leadership team," Colonel McGee added.

Colonel Jefferson took command of the 460th MSG then addressed the group.

"I look forward to working with you, to make Buckley the premier installation in the United States Air Force," the new MSG commander said. "I pledge to you my sincerest dedication and loyalty also, to every member of the team.

"I'm truly excited to join this team, and as we continue to grow the base and provide extraordinary support -- always. Let me say ... 'proud to be MSG!'"

Colonel Jefferson received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Miss., in 1985; and his Master of Science in Engineering Management from West Coast University, Vandenberg AFB, Calif., in 1997. The colonel graduated from Squadron Officer School, Maxwell AFB, Ala., in 1990; U.S. Air Force Weapons School, Nellis AFB, Nev., as a distinguished graduate in 1997; Air Command and Staff College by correspondence in 1999; and Air War College by correspondence in 2006.

He has been assigned to Robins AFB, Ga.; Peterson AFB, Colo.; Falcon AFB (now Schriever AFB), Colo.; Vandenberg AFB, Colo.; Aviano Air Base, Italy; Schriever AFB, Colo.; and Nellis AFB, Nev.
