Brendan, 566th Intelligence Squadron, is Team Buckley's Warrior of the Week for Oct. 26 - Nov. 1.Duty Title: Resource advisorTime in Service: Six yearsHometown: Pleasanton, Calif.Hobbies: Running and hikingWhat is the combat capability that you exemplified to earn you the Warrior of the Week?I was chosen as the Warrior of the Week because of the core value of service before self. As a new arrival, I had the choice of where I would work and best support my new squadron. I sat down with both work sections and chose to work outside of my career field as a resource advisor and fill a critical position as the current RA transitions out.How do your day-to-day duties impact the Air Force mission?Without closely monitoring our budget, we would not be able to support the Airmen in our squadron. One of my jobs is to ensure anyone deploying in support of the Global War on Terror has the required gear and training before they leave. If our budget doesn't allow us to provide this level of support, I need to work with our group to get the funding. Plus, I keep my commander informed on the status of funds to make sure the day-to-day items are funded as well.If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be?I would change the force shaping criteria. I am a 3C251, computer network technician, and I was forced to choose between cross training and separating from the Air Force. I reviewed the list of available Air Force career fields and would have liked to have joined the medical field but was unable to. I cannot get a career job reservation in my career field so now I will have to separate at the end of my enlistment.What has been your most memorable experience in the Air Force?Experiencing the culture of other nations. Prior to coming to Buckley, I was stationed at Aviano Air Base, Italy. I took advantage of the location and traveled all over Europe, visiting Spain, England, Germany, Greece, Norway, and many other nations. What other job can you have that will let you experience so many different cultures and truly get a view of what the world is like? It is not something I would have ever imagined I would be able to do and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.Why do you serve?As with a lot of people, I came in to take advantage of the college opportunities. It was only after I had completed my preliminary training at basic training, technical school and on-the-job training at my first duty assignment that I came to realize how much I truly enjoyed what I do. Now I would say I serve to represent my country and represent what America is really about.Military accomplishments:I would have to say there are two things that I am the proudest of. The first is joining the United States Air Forces Europe Cross Country Team. I was able to travel and do what I like to do - run. But, most of all, I would say it was when I deployed to the United Arab Emirates. I walked into what seemed like a ghost town and helped build up its network for a soon-to-be-established base. Halfway through the build, we had the first group of troops arrive, and I was able to extend my deployment to see it through to the end. It was a lot of work but it was also a lot of fun.
