Base residents asked to stay on road ways

Residents, especially those who live in base housing, are being asked to remain on the roadway along Telluride Street while walking to or from the Base Exchange, commissary or fitness center.

Base officials have noticed military personnel and family members cutting across the field behind the dog kennels to save time and steps while heading to and from base housing. This area is "off limits" and signs are posted stating that the area is part of a former military munitions training site and is under investigation.

Civil engineers are planning to install a fence along Telluride in the next couple of weeks to keep people out of the area. A permanent sidewalk will be added in the future.

State law requires pedestrians to walk along the road way towards opposing traffic so drivers and pedestrians can visually see each other.
