Buckley honored with local environmental award Published April 12, 2007 BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Buckley Air Force Base was one 14 local organizations awarded a Metro Wastewater Reclamation District Gold Award for 2006 during ceremonies April 12. The award, the second the base has earned, is given each year by the Metro District. The award honors those facilities that have demonstrated 100 percent compliance with the Metro District's Industrial Pretreatment requirements and a commitment to environmental excellence, according to Ms. Lori Maag, Industrial Waste Supervisor with the Metro District. "We are extremely happy with the performance of our 14 award-winning companies and hope everyone congratulates them on a job well done," Magg said. "Performance like theirs deserves to be rewarded." The District began giving its Gold Awards 16 years ago as a means to recognize area organizations for their environmental compliance. "We are pleased to be recognized with this award," said Ms. Laurie Fisher, Water Quality Manager in the 460th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Flight. "But, it is the people who work at Buckley who should be proud, because it is through their diligence and attention to detail that we qualified for the award. It is especially significant since so many were deployed in 2006, and many folks were doing jobs unfamiliar to them." The Metro Wastewater Reclamation District is the largest wastewater treatment agency in the Rocky Mountain West and serves most of the metro Denver region. It treats almost 47.5 billion gallons of wastewater for 1.5 million metro Denver residents.
