Buckley leader reaches out for Read Across America Published March 5, 2007 By Mrs. Barbara Atwell 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Sharing the magic of the written word, giving back to the community and showing children a little bit about the Air Force were at the top of a Buckley Air Force Base senior leader's list March 2 as he shared time with a local elementary school class as part of the Aurora Public School's Leaders are Readers program. Col. Steven Muhs, 460th Mission Support Group commander, read "And to Think that I saw it on Mulberry Street" to a first and second grade combined class at Murphy Creek K-8 School. Murphy Creek is the feeder school for children residing in base housing. The Aurora Public School program is part of the National Education Association's Read Across America. The March 2 date coincides with the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. "This is a great opportunity to give back to the local community and to expose children at a young age to the United States Air Force," said Colonel Muhs. "It was very rewarding to see how bright and energetic our young children are and to see what a great educational institution our Buckley base housing children are attending at Murphy Creek. I was extremely impressed with the Murphy Creek school staff and the facilities.
