DoD personnel prepare for SnoFest

  • Published
The Front Range Services Divisions will put on the 16th Annual SnoFest Jan. 26 through 28 at Keystone Resort, Colo.

All Department of Defense personnel can take advantage of the winter celebration, and Air Force Space Command Commander Gen. Kevin Chilton has designated Jan. 26 as a family day for military members and a liberal leave day for civilian employees who plan to attend.

SnoFest is a weekend of lodging, skiing, skating, snowboarding, having parties, NASTAR racing, building and racing cardboard sleds, tubing, and winning prizes and giveaways at heavily discounted rates for the military community.

Cost
Lift tickets for SnoFest are $38 for adults and $26 for children 5-12. They can be purchased at Information, Tickets and Travel in Mod 2.

Make equipment rental reservations at www.rentskis.com/snofest prior to SnoFest for a 25 percent discount on fees.

To take advantage of lodging discounts, call Keystone Resort at 1-800-258-0437 and mention the base and group code, "GV7SNOW."

Parties
The Keystone Lodge will host a Mad Hatter's un-birthday party from 7 to 9 p.m. Desserts, hot gluhwein, hot chocolate, hot cider and a cash bar will be available. The adjoining ice rink will be open for skating. Tickets are $5 and will not be available at the door. They can be purchased at ITT.

Saturday, celebrate the winter blues from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Keystone Conference Center, where Italian fare and desserts will be served and Deja Blue, a Boulder-based blues band, will perform. A pre-party cash bar will be open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and under. They can also be purchased at ITT.

Other events
Free snowboarding and ski races will be available to SnoFest participants with the purchase of a lift ticket.

Saturday, teams, squadrons, individual and families can compete in the Cardboard Derby, in which players build racers out of cardboard, tape, paint paper and rope either before arriving at Keystone or just prior to the racing event. Then, they race them down the slopes. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.

Other activities include ice skating, tubing, taking sleigh rides, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and shopping. The Air Force Academy ITT will offer tours from Keystone to various mountain towns for shopping and sightseeing. Sign up for the tours at ITT.
