Free internet web hosting offered to military personnel

It has been said communication is the key to almost everything people do.

The American Legion Department of Colorado realizes the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends while they serve, and thinks the gift of communication is a good thing to provide our American family - our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen serving to protect our freedoms.

The American Legion, Department of Colorado, has created LegionData.org to provide free Web hosting technology to active-duty members of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserves. LegionData.org solicits corporate and individual donors to finance this offer. These donations allow LegionData.org to give a free one-year subscription to The American Legion Military Hosting Plan and a personal domain. After the free year, the subscription is $9.95 per month.

This allows military personnel full access to Internet hosting. All they need to do is visit www.coloradolegion.org to register. The legion takes care of the rest.

"This is an excellent opportunity for The American Legion to do one of the things we do best, support our troops," said Ralph Bozella, Colorado American Legion department commander, "and this is a terrific opportunity for the business community as well as individuals to partner with us to support our troops in a most meaningful way."

The American Legion Military hosting plan provides one hosted Web site, five e-mail boxes, a user control panel, 100 MB of disk storage, 10 GB of data transfer, one MySQL database, Webalizer Resource, Front Page extensions, CGI resource, e-mail auto responder, mail box alias, mail forward, mailing list, mail domain alias and domain registration for one year.

A staff of disabled veterans will man user support services. Since LegionData.org is an arm of a veterans' organization it is a Veterans Supporting Veterans Operation.

The 2.7 million-member American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans' organization.
