Local Marine Reserve Unit returns from Operation Iraqi Freedom

Approximately 130 Marines and Sailors from Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division stationed here returned home today from service with 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, or I MEF, in Iraq. 

These Colorado Marines were called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on Dec. 1. They departed Buckley Jan. 2 for 29 Palms, Calif., where they participated in Mojave Viper, a deployment training course all Marines go through before deploying. The unit deployed to Iraq March 21 .

The Marines and Sailors of Alpha Battery served in OIF as a provisional military police company in western Iraq providing security and stability to the region. Over the last seven months, Alpha Battery has performed detention operations at various Regional Detention Facilities and trained Iraqi police forces throughout the restive Al Anbar Province.

This is the second activation for Alpha Battery since the beginning of the Global War on Terror. In 2003, Alpha Battery was activated and deployed to Iraq as part of I MEF.
