Leadership Aurora community members visited Buckley Space Force Base aiming to gain first-hand insight into the diverse Joint missions conducted across the installation on March 21, 2024.
Their engagement included immersive tours and briefings, offering a comprehensive understanding of Buckley's operational capabilities and its crucial role in national defense and community support efforts.
"It was an honor hosting the Aurora community members at Buckley,” reflects Col. Heidi Dexter, the SBD2 commander. “Their engagement highlights the teamwork that defines Team Buckley and underscores the importance of our collective missions."
Among the highlights of the visit were mission briefs conducted by leadership from Space Base Delta 2, Space Delta 4, Colorado Air National Guard, and the 140th Wing. These briefings provided invaluable insights into the diverse roles and responsibilities undertaken by Buckley personnel, underscoring the base's pivotal role in national defense and community support efforts.
During the tour of Buckley's operational capabilities, participants took to the skies with the COANG aboard a UH-60 Black Hawk. This immersive experience showcased the importance of COANG's role in providing critical support to the community.
"The Colorado Army National Guard works hard to ensure the safety of Colorado’s citizens and their property year-round,” emphasizes Col. William Gentle, the State Army Aviation Officer. “Aircrews train to provide domestic support for the community through wildlife firefighting, flood relief, and through the Colorado Hoist Rescue Team. Our CHRT program rescues over 20 people each year when civilian helicopters and ground vehicles can’t reach them. This provides precision training for our aircrews and lifesaving capability to the state."
As the day's activities came to a close, the exchange between Buckley personnel and Aurora community members exemplified a shared commitment to service and collaboration.
In essence, the visit builds upon the enduring partnership between Buckley SFB and the Aurora community, highlighting the mutual respect and support that define their relationship.
