Buckley Space Force Base, Aurora Police Department, and Denver Federal Bureau of Investigations members united to commemorate National Police Week at Buckley SFB, Colorado, May 13-17, 2024.

National Police Week provides an opportunity to publicly recognize officers' dedication through joint remembrance ceremonies, honoring fallen officers and celebrating the commitment of those who serve.

“National Police Week is a time for us to come together and honor the commitment and sacrifices of defenders and law enforcement partners,” said Maj. Chase Shields, 460th Security Forces Squadron commander. “Their dedication to duty ensures the safety and security of our community and country.”

The work of law enforcement involves not only enforcing the law but also building trust and fostering positive relationships within the community. Their presence during National Police Week highlighted the critical role they play in maintaining the safety and security of Aurora.

“It was a great opportunity to be there with my fellow service members and law enforcement counterparts,” Tech Sgt. Tyler Reich, Space Base Delta 2, Senior Enlisted Leader Executive Assistant. “I'm glad to do my job every day and support the incredible work of our police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice of serving their communities.”

Throughout National Police Week, the spirit of camaraderie between Buckley SFB, APD, and the Denver FBI was evident. This partnership reflects the shared values and mission that unite these organizations.

“Locally, we have support from our partners to include the LEO community from the Aurora Police Department and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. Every day, our officers put themselves in harm’s way, often facing challenges that most of us can only imagine, yet they continue to serve with courage and integrity, sacrificing their own well-being for the greater good. They are quite literally our first line of defense” Col. Heidi Dexter, Space Base Delta 2 commander, said.

The week concluded with a strong emphasis on the importance of standing together and working collaboratively to protect and serve our community.
