The Department of Defense has recognized the outstanding achievements of the Fire Prevention Program at Buckley Space Force Base, naming them the 2024 Fire Prevention Program of the Year! This prestigious award celebrates the team's exceptional work, innovation, and overall contribution to the installation’s mission.

The Buckley SFB Fire Prevention Team has distinguished itself through a comprehensive and truly innovative approach to fire safety. They are doing more than just preventing fires, they are actively cultivating a culture of prevention throughout the base, protecting lives and the valuable assets that are critical to our mission.

“I’m extremely proud of our entire Buckley Fire & Emergency Services firefighters for winning the coveted DoD Fire Prevention Program of the Year,” said David Fain, 460th Civil Engineer Squadron fire chief. “Our firefighters worked extremely hard this year in hosting events and educating thousands of people on and off base about fire prevention, and we could not be more pleased. This is the greatest achievement I’ve been associated with in 42 years of Fire Service and I’m so grateful to work with such a committed team!”

The team's recognition stems from many impressive accomplishments. They piloted a comprehensive safety program that completed 342 inspections to ensure strict compliance with fire safety regulations across the base. Their commitment to outreach was equally great, educating over 15,000 people on and off base through a variety of programs, raising awareness, and promoting practical fire safety practices. These efforts directly contributed to the protection of $6 billion in military assets, safeguarding the critical infrastructure and resources that are vital to Buckley SFB's mission.

One particularly noteworthy achievement was the piloting of the Community Risk Reduction Connect program, a groundbreaking initiative that brought the Buckley team together with the Federal Emergency Management Agency region and five state and local agencies. This collaborative effort united $125,000 in joint assets to host nine public events, extending the reach of fire prevention efforts beyond the base's fence.

“I am incredibly proud of the Fire Prevention Team for earning this award,” said Lt. Col. Ryan Price, 460th CES commander. “This recognition is proof of their dedication, proactive approach, and tireless efforts in keeping Buckley SFB safe and mission ready. They’ve set a new standard for fire prevention, and their commitment to excellence is truly inspiring to those around them. Congratulations to the team. I have no doubt they will continue to raise the bar this year and I'm excited to see what they accomplish next. Keep up the great work!”

The Buckley SFB Fire Prevention Team's dedication to excellence has not only earned them this award but has also made a lasting difference in the safety and security of the base and the surrounding community. Their innovative programs, collaborative partnerships, and steadfast commitment to fire prevention truly serve as a model for other installations across the Department of Defense.
