Panther of the Week: Duane Bartley Published Jan. 12, 2016 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Name: Duane Bartley Unit/Job Title: 460th Civil Engineer Squadron mission assurance integration engineer Length of Service: 1.5 years Hometown: Salida, Colorado Hobbies: Marksmanship, mountain biking, hiking, scuba diving, and building great cars and trucks Unique fact: Built the battery pack that powered Martha Stewart's ankle bracelet during her probation Based on his can-do attitude and his superior technical engineering knowledge, Mr. Bartley was handpicked by the 460th CES commander as the Civil Engineering Infrastructure mission assurance integrator. In this mission critical position, Mr. Bartley garnered 2.6 million dollars for a project to replace the Uninterruptable Power Supply system providing conditioned power to the Space-based Infrared System Mission Control Station. He negotiated with the Power Conditioning and Continuation Interface Equipment Team from Hill Air Force Base to accelerate the UPS replacement timeline, successfully advancing the 460th Space Wing project above many other critical Air Force mission projects. His efforts were instrumental in allowing the 460th SW to continue with the Block 10 upgrade on schedule unimpeded. Additionally, Mr. Bartley went above and beyond his normal duties to help resolve an issue with the High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse system to a mission critical facility. He meticulously evaluated the system and, using his engineering skills, he developed a low cost solution that was immediately implemented, restoring the HEMP systems' integrity and protecting the mission of national security importance. Finally, Mr. Bartley has successfully de-conflicted day-to-day civil engineering maintenance work and utility system upgrades with the 460th Operations Group mission schedules, meticulously evaluating and communicating the possible mission impacts of the work in order for leadership to make informed decisions on whether to allow the work to continue.
