Wing commander addresses accomplishments, resiliency at commander's call

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --  Col. John Wagner, 460th Space Wing commander, held a commander's call for the 460th Space Wing Jan. 4, 2016, at the Buckley Fitness Center on Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado.

Commander's calls are an easy way for Buckley AFB leadership to discuss important information in a mass setting for those working on base. It is also a good venue for base personnel to express concerns and opinions to leadership.

Wagner discussed many topics, including Panther of the Week, new changes on Buckley AFB, resiliency, and upcoming events.

Panther of the Week is a way to highlight specific people around the base and the amazing things they do supporting the wing and its mission. Wagner recognized the people awarded this honor in 2015 during the commander's call.

"Without these Airmen and without these stories we would not be who we are because you kicked it above the goal post in 2015," said Wagner.

Many of the changes on Buckley AFB came about because of an event called Breakfast with the Boss, where different members of Team Buckley have breakfast with the commander and discuss ways to improve the base.

"It's been very helpful to just sit down and chat and go through how we can make Buckley better," said Wagner. "What are some of the things we can do? And not only just talk about it but take some positive action to actually do it."

Some of the changes that have come from Breakfast with the Boss are paramedics being reinstated on base, college courses being available on base and an increase in base communication.

Wagner also focused heavily on resiliency. He encouraged everyone to be a leader and step up to help others. He also said support networks are key to being resilient and to finding healthy ways to deal with stress.

"Everybody is a leader in here, in some way, shape or form, everybody," said Wagner.
A 460th Space Wing safety office representative also spoke at the commander's call to inform everyone on new safety information.

A new Colorado law has been put into place, known as Code 15. This new law states that if someone is driving up a hill and cannot make it because their tires are bad then they can be fined up to $650, said Chris Smith, 460th Space Wing safety office.

Wagner also highlighted upcoming events for Team Buckley members. The month of January holds Breakfast with the Boss, Snofest and many more events.

Wagner concluded by congratulating Team Buckley on earning another goal day.
