Operation Warm Heart provides funds to visit Airman in need Published Oct. 28, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Samantha Meadors 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.- -- Using funds from Operation Warm Heart, two Airmen had the opportunity to visit a fellow wingman in another state who was in need of some company after a serious surgery complication. Master Sgt. Kyle Lindahl, 566 Intelligence Squadron flight superintendent, and Master Sgt. Leon Crump, 566 IS signals analyst, visited Master Sgt. Chad Brooks, 566 Intelligence Squadron flight chief, after he experienced complications following an appendectomy. "He had no idea we were coming," Lindahl said. "From outside the hospital we called and were like 'Hey what room are you in?' and (Brooks) said 'Well...I'm in Nebraska.' and we're like 'We know. We are too. What room are you in?' He was pretty excited to see us. He had been trapped in that room for a while." Senior Master Sgt. Edward Perry, 566 IS first sergeant, said the visit was very important to the unit and that it was only possible through the generosity of Operation Warm Heart. "We felt, as a unit, a visit would do him good and let him know (we) support him-a little morale visit," he said. "He's one of our top NCOs and we really want to see him back. We didn't have the money, but Operation Warm Heart allowed it to happen." Operation Warm Heart is a first sergeants group that, through fundraising and donations, provides monetary and material support to military members and their families. The organization has held multiple events on Buckley AFB such as food drives, 5ks and the Angel Tree program during the holidays to help Team Buckley members in need. "This was the first time I'd ever used the Warm Heart funds," Lindahl said. "I had heard about it before but it was the first time I had to use it. It enabled us to go out there. He's a friend, a fellow Airman, and we got to go check up on him." Brooks has since had a successful return home. "That really means something to people-when you care about them," Perry said. "It's not about doing your job; it's about taking care of your fellow wingmen. This is really about two extraordinary NCOs that are going out of their way showing what true wingmanship is about."
