Buckley brings accredited university courses to base Published Oct. 26, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Luke W. Nowakowski 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Buckley Air Force Base has teamed up with Colorado Christian University to provide college courses on base. "This was a long process spearheaded by our 460th Force Support Squadron, specifically the Education and Training Section," said Chief Master Sgt. Brian Kruzelnick, 460th Space Wing command chief. "They solicited for universities based off specific criteria such as cost, fees, accreditation, course length, established Memorandum of Understanding with Department of Defense, accessibility, flexibility, among other factors. From that list, the options were narrowed until the wing finally selected Colorado Christian University. Even after selection, there were base visits from the CCU president, legal reviews and additional MOU's needed between the university and the installation." CCU is a regionally accredited university that will provide three classes during the spring semester. The courses include oral communication, English composition and mathematics. Courses will be taught one night every week for five weeks, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at building 30. The tuition rate for the classes will be $250.00 per credit hour for active duty military members and $523.00 per credit hour for civilians. Tuition assistance for military members will cover the cost of the courses offered. Humanities, social sciences and computer science courses will be offered later in the year. "There are so many benefits,"said Mariesha Braley, 460th Force Support Squadron education and training chief. "The classes are only one night a week for five weeks, which helps accommodate a busy work and life schedule. CCU is focused on offering general education classes which will apply toward a degree with Community College of the Air Force." Having access to an accredited university that offers courses on base is something Buckley AFB members have said they've needed for a long time. With the ability to go to class on base, Team Buckley members no longer have an excuse not to try and attain a higher level of education. "Buckley has brought education to your doorstep," Kruzelnick said. "Hopefully that took down the barriers and eliminated excuses. This should accommodate the schedule of most Buckley personnel. We have given you the opportunity to further your education, my question is 'What are you going to do with it?'" Registration for courses will begin in November and courses will start in January.
