Team Buckley hosted and won the 2nd annual Air Force Space Command Tri-Wing Sports Day competitions May 20 on Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado.

"It was a great opportunity for both competition and camaraderie," said Col. John Wagner, 460th Space Wing commander.

Tri-Wing Sports Day is held once a year between the three Air Force Space Command bases in Colorado -- Buckley AFB, Peterson AFB, and Shriver AFB.  The festivities promoted healthy, active lifestyles and friendly competition.

"It's really important for the Airmen on base to get themselves in the activities because when you get on a team, you learn how to work with a team," said Alan Muriera, 460th Medical Group health and wellness director. "You're open to a diverse crowd.  Like on our team we had civilians, officers and enlisted Airmen, it's really a good bonding experience."

The three bases competed against each other in over 15 sports to see who would take home the tri-wing cup.

"Everyone won as we formed bonds on the fields of friendly strife that will serve us well over many years to come in the Air Force," Wagner said. "There were multiple soccer match shootouts, last second basketball wins, new powerlifting records, cycling leaders averaging 30 mph over the course, and much more that proved our teams are fit to fight together,"

I think it boosts morale because it makes everything more like a team, said Colin Hune, 460th Medical Group pharmacy technician. It brings everybody together doing the same thing, same job and same mission.
