Buckley Family Advocacy will be sponsoring a Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program two-day class on May 14-15 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day at the Health and Wellness Center on base.

The course is available to all those who are affiliated with Buckley Air Force Base, to include civilians, retirees and contractors. Lunch will be provided each day and a $20 gift card will be given to each participant who completes the class.

According to the Center for Relationship Education, relationships are the very essence of humanity.  According to numerous studies, healthy relationships and meaningful connections are essential to wellness, health and long-term employment. Many detrimental health and life outcomes occur when our relationships are not healthy or satisfying. The common chord of the human heart is to love and be loved well.

PREP is based on many years of research at the University of Denver and at other leading universities around the world. It is regularly updated, based on ongoing research.

PREP is an interactive seminar conducted by facilitators from the Healthy Marriage Project who have learned the techniques to keep their marriages alive, functioning and thriving over the years.

The core assumptions of PREP are:

It is best to prevent serious problems from developing in the first place

By knowing what raises the risk of divorce or marital dissatisfaction, couples will know more about how to stay on the best path

Many things are associated with increased chances of divorce, including many that are hard or impossible to change: young age, different backgrounds, personality differences, parental divorce, etc.

All couples will have problems.  It's how they are handled that counts most for the future.

PREP strives to teach couples how to handle conflict constructively, to talk without fighting, how to maintain and deepen fun and friendship and how to act on the commitment couples have for one another.  This course provides couples tools for more effective communication to help create more resilient relationships.
