CCIP, wing IG keeps Buckley on track Published April 9, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Emily E. Amyotte 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- With every exercise that Team Buckley participates in, there will always be a review of the Airmen's actions to follow. The Commander's Inspection Program is one of the many components of the Air Force Inspection System. The Commander's Inspection Program has two key components: the Wing Inspection Program and the Self-Assessment Program. The Wing Inspection Program is executed by the wing Inspector General. The IG inspects groups, squadrons and other functions within the wing. This program goes hand-in-hand with the commander's Self-Assessment Program. "We're validating for the commander that his team is giving him an accurate picture of his unit's health," said Pamela Worrell, 460th Inspector General inspections director. The SAP is the commander's way to show the units' leadership the status of the unit. Each unit has their own self-assessment program and SAP managers. The managers are responsible for overseeing all of the unit's functions, whether that be inspecting or making sure they're exercised at least once a year. The Commander's Inspection Management Board is separated into multiple levels. The self-assessment is done at the lowest level possible, with the gathered information and results sent up through the chain of command. Once the information is sent to the next level, that level will compile all known information to then brief the next highest level. Once the results have gone all the way up the chain of command to the wing commander, it is compiled into the Wing CIMB. "In today's Air Force with reducing manning and other resources being cut all the time, it is critical for commanders that are on the line and doing the job to have the opportunity to say, 'these are my priorities," Worrell said. "For them to say, 'these things we might not get to this week, we might not get to this year. But right now these aren't my priorities, these are.'" Major Graded Areas that are sent up through the chain of command are Inspector General Evaluation Management System and Manager's Internal Control Toolset items, areas of accepted risk, areas of unaccepted risk and self-assessments. "It's a great opportunity for anybody at any level to identify to their leadership what they can't get done and have an opportunity to impact the processes Air Force wide," she added.
